Portland Carol Slam Featuring Local Composers and Singers
The third annual Portland Carol Slam will take place on Saturday, December 20th, 2014 at 2:30 PM, at Bull Feeney’s Restaurant & Pub on Fore Street in Portland’s Old Port. It will be free and open to the public.
The Slam features new holiday carols written by local composers, sung by a choir of local singers. Audience members will pick a favorite carol, and that carol’s composer will be presented with a holiday wreath.
The event is intended to bring fun and merriment to the cold and dark of winter. It also aims to re-invigorate the music of the holiday season, much of which is repeated year after year. Carols may feature traditional Christmas texts, but other themes and ways of celebrating winter are also encouraged. All comers are welcome!
The organizer of the Carol Slam is Benjamin Heasly, a Portland native and resident, and amateur musician. He believes the Portland Carol Slam is unique to Portland, in combining the “slam” format of creative competition with choral composition and singing.
Benjamin may be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
